GRANT AWARDS HELP UNDERFUNDED SCHOOL DISTRICTS DURING UNCERTAIN
ECONOMIC TIMES
Wichita Falls, Texas, September 19, 2008 – Current events in
the US economy are causing concerns not just for the business
world, but in the education sector as well. A recent article
from respected publication Education Week focused on how the crisis
impacts state and district investment portfolios and teacher-retirement
funds.
Higher transportation, food and fuel costs are also hitting school
districts hard. Layoffs across many industries compound the problem
for families, who may not be able to pay for school related expenses
as in the past. Between all of these issues parents and educators
may be justified in foreseeing the possibility of schools cutting
not just extra-curricular activities but educational programs
as well.
To help address this issue head on, school leaders need to be
more vigilant than ever about funding and fundraising programs.
TopSchoolFundraisers.com is an online source for free advice and
resources for parents and school leaders to plan fundraising projects.
Now the group is stepping up its efforts by offering a direct
grant of up to $5000.
Sandra Sims, President of Step by Step Fundraising, the parent
company of Top School Fundraisers, said, “I’ve been privileged
to help schools with their fundraisers over the years. But I’ve
always wanted to do more. Now we’re able to help schools directly
as well as providing fundraising resources.”
Any public, private or charter school, pre-K through 12th grade,
in the United States or Canada is eligible to apply. Preference
will be given to projects that will directly support a specific
curriculum such as (but not limited to) technology, fine arts,
reading or science.
Jim Berigan, lead writer and managing editor of TopSchoolFundraisers.com,
said, “When I was a school principal nothing frustrated me more
than when we had to cut a program or a teacher because of a lack
of funds. I hate to see kids hurt like that. I know how important
this kind of grant funding is.”
To apply school officials need to complete a one page form and
prepare a presentation that explains how they would use the grant
money. The presentation can be written in the form of a letter,
an essay or other proposal style. Schools can also utilize technology
such as online video to be creative with their proposal.
Those wishing to apply should go to the website at TopSchoolFundraisers.com/finance
or request an application be mailed to them by calling the company
at the toll free number, 1-877-580-2575.
