Spice Up the Traditional Dinner Fundraiser

A Florida Elementary school decided to switch the menu of its dinner fundraiser from spaghetti to Mexican fare. But the cuisine was not the only change in this event. The purpose was expanded beyond just the fundraiser into a cultural festival and outreach.
Manatee Elementary School is dropping its annual fundraising spaghetti supper and replacing it with an Oct. 19 dinner to honor Hispanic cultures.
It’s a three-pronged effort: celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month; help Hispanic parents feel more welcome at school; and provide families a window onto other cultures.
