School Carnivals have always been successful fund raising activities for schools, even dating back to the 1970s.

Since then there have been huge improvements and efficiencies in the opportunities available to schools and non-profit groups to raise funds.

Our company, FUNDRAISING PROVIDER, has full integration with Web2.0 companies and allow both students and parents to get the word out quickly to their friends and family for support via the internet.

Though costly to set up and operate, we have had great success in increasing the overall revenue for the non-profit groups and schools we are assisting using this new format.

Awesome suggestions! I'd like to add one - get lots of parents signed up to help! The company I work for, VolunteerSpot.com - has a free and easy online sign up tool that the carnival chair, room parents and teachers can use to schedule parents to staff the booths and carnival. We also send automated email reminder messages to help parents keep their commitments. Please check us out - with all the time you save coordinating parents, you'll have more time for carnival prep! Have fun!

I totally agree with your thoughts on not having a theme. Many times this will detract from the goal of making money. The organizers get so caught up in keeping with the theme that they ignore the real intent of the carnival - raising money.

For example, if you were doing a "Western Days" carnival you may choose to do something like a hay ride ILO a higher throughput ride like an inflatable slide. You are much wiser doing a game or ride with a higher throughput than trying to fit a theme for a carnival.

To add on to the concession and food thought, buying from a name brand can be dangerous too. Chances are that the sandwiches from Chick-fil-A did not taste as good at the carnival as it did in the restaurant. People don't like this. Additionally, keeping chicken for a longer period of time is more difficult than parents grilling hot dogs.
