Connecting Schools With Great Fundraising Ideas.

We at Top School Fundraisers are always happy to share news of grants that become available. To that end, we are very excited to tell you about the recent announcement from the national office of the Parent Teacher Association.

Awards of up to $1,000 to local PTAs who are making an outstanding commitment to promoting health and wellness in their communities

Applications must be received in the PTA Office of Programs and Public Policy by 5:00 p.m. EDT, Friday, September 5, 2008.

What You Need to Know

• PTA Healthy Lifestyles Awards will be given only to PTAs in good standing.

• All applications will be subject to competitive review. Judges will be looking for programs that
o Promote healthy lifestyles in the home, school, and community;
o Promote family involvement in the school;
o Emphasize the connection between healthy lifestyles and student achievement; and
o Engage a diverse group of family and community members.

• Each qualified local PTA that submits a completed application will receive at least one of the following:
o A monetary award of up to $1,000 to support its PTA Healthy Lifestyles activities
o A visit to its school by a PTA national officer
o A certificate of recognition

• The monetary award may be used only to cover direct expenses for the proposed PTA project. (Awards granted may be less than the amount requested.)

• Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. EDT, Friday, September 5, 2008.

• Recipients of awards will be notified by Monday, September 29, 2008.

What You Need to Do

• Apply. PTAs in good standing may apply. Complete and submit the application form provided on the reverse of this page; also submit a typed, 250-word description of your PTA Healthy Lifestyles plans and a budget for the use of award monies.An electronic version of the application may be downloaded pta.org/healthylifestyles or requested by sending an e-mail to HealthyLifestyles@pta.org. (Please submit only one application per PTA.)
