It Will Be a Pleasure to Meet You!

Today I want to discuss the topic of leaving comments on this blog. Guess what! I’m all for it!
As I mentioned in my first post, the stats on this site are amazing. There are a lot of people out there reading our regular entries. And that’s great! But unfortunately, we don’t know who you all are.
For Christmas, my son received the board game “Guess Who!” That’s the one where you have to ask your opponent questions about his characters’ physical appearance to eliminate suspects and discover the hidden person.
I’ve played a lot of “Guess Who” in the last couple of weeks, so allow me to use my finely-honed deductive reasoning to try to determine who’s reading this blog.
First, I would guess our readers are adults. I told my kids I was writing for a fundraising blog and their eyes glazed over and a couple of them fell instantly to sleep. (I’ll have to remember that trick for future use…) So, I guess I’m not a favorite of the younger set.
I would also surmise that our readers are involved in the fundraising process at some level in their kids’ schools. I was the principal of an elementary school, and it was the rare person who either didn’t work at the school or who had kids there that actually helped us raise money. Not non-existent, mind you, but rare indeed. So, bottom-line, I’m guessing our readers are either parents, teachers, or principals. Maybe I should throw in school board members, too.
I am going to be generous and assume that if you are reading this blog, you are reasonably intelligent. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it a hundred more times, fundraising is hard work. It requires the ability to think critically, strategize, and execute. These are definitely higher-level cognitive skills.
I also think you are a driven lot. To keep after this pursuit of raising thousands of dollars year after year, you either have to be a little touched, or else you are passionate about your child’s education and are committed to providing the very best you are able- even if that means long nights, weekends, and people avoiding you when they see you coming in the supermarket.
So, ok, let’s sum up: you are most likely old enough to know better, intelligent, passionate, and aren’t afraid to put yourself out there for a good cause. Sounds exactly like someone I’d like to get to know.
And that’s what I truly hope happens here. It would please me to no end if we are able to develop a little community where we all check in with and encourage each other on a regular basis. I may be driving this bus, but I certainly don’t want to make this journey alone.
You will have the opportunity to comment at the end of each blog post. And I promise to respond to each person’s comment, unless, of course, it’s spam. (Don’t spam me, bro!”)
You are also welcome to send letters and ask questions. I have a lot of experience in this field, and I know where to turn for answers if I’m in the dark, as well. Please feel free to make suggestions about articles I can research and write. That’s exactly what I’m here for.
And lastly, from time to time, I will be posting surveys that I would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to reply to. I promise not to use your information in any sneaky way. The purpose of these surveys will be to benefit you, our readers with the collected data and wisdom from our online community. The more responses we get, the better our information will be, so please take part.
Well, I have already begun researching some topics to write about next week. I am so looking forward to starting this conversation, and I sincerely hope you are too.
Have a great weekend!
