Parents, families and students just go online to order their favorite magazines and 40% goes to the school. These magazines are all offered at discounted prices – up to 95% off newsstand prices – so it’s a great deal for everyone.

Parents or students simply enter email addresses of friends and family into the online system. A personalized email is then automatically sent out inviting them to order magazines through your group’s customized website. The magazine company processes and sends all the orders. Your students or parents do not have to handle money or fulfill these orders!

Just be sure to promote your fundraiser with publicity efforts, making sure all the families in the school know about the discount magazine subscription fundraiser. Remind them several times throughout the year, especially before gift giving holidays, about the program to increase your success.

It’s time to check in with the latest winners of the eFundraising’s magazine contest. For those of you who don’t know about this contest with great prizes, you can read all about it in a recent article I wrote.

But for a quick recap: eFundraising is holding a magazine sales contest on its site. All you have to do is visit this page and sign your group up. You will then be instructed on how to set up a virtual magazine store. It’s very easy.

Once this is all squared away, you email your friends, family, and other associates and ask them if they would like to support your child’s school by buying magazine subscriptions up to 85% off newsstand prices.

If they are interested, they just have to click the link in your email, follow the prompts, and your school is sent 40% of the sale price. Do this with enough people, and the total can really add up.
Now, here’s where the contest comes in. The top seller of the month taken from all of the participating groups wins an iPhone. The top seller for the entire promotional contest wins a 42” plasma television!

One of the recent winners of both the iPhone and flat screen television is Betty Michelli. She has an incredibly moving story. You’ll definitely want to read this. Here is what Betty experienced, in her own words:

I would like to extend my profound thanks and gratitude to www.magfundraising.com. The fundraiser has allowed me to raise money to help with my four year old grandson’s medical bills. He was diagnosed with autism and epilepsy and if he gets early intervention for his treatment, he will be able to function with normal children in schools and society.

Unfortunately, the treatment is very expensive and not covered by insurance. We could not afford to continue his treatment. I tried numerous fundraisers which was a hassle to sell and collect. It made me uncomfortable asking people to donate or take a chance on a prize. It broke my heart that we had to stop his treatment but I had already used all my savings. Then God answered my prayers and I stumbled on this fundraiser site.

The fundraiser has proven to be very simple, easy to do. All you have to do is send emails to all your friends and family. The fundraiser site does all the work for you. You don’t have to worry about collecting money, delivering merchandise. All you have to do is sit back and wait for your monthly check from the 40% profits. You can set up your site to send out reminders to everyone on your email list in case they forgot to order. In addition, the personnel staff has been extremely helpful whenever I needed them.

The site offers a wide variety of magazines for all age groups or interest. I had no trouble getting people to order once everyone saw how much money they were saving at this fundraiser site. We sold 180 magazines totaling $4,222.00. In fact, I was the top seller in my group and won both the IPhone and flat screen TV for this month. I elected to accept the cash in lieu of the items so that I could contribute the money to Anthony’s medical expenses. Not only did my grandson receive 40% of the profits which totaled $1,688.80 but also the $1400.00 cash in lieu of the prizes. I set up an account for his medical treatment and deposited a total of $3,088.88. This enabled us to continue with his ABA treatment without us having to take out loans.

Thank you www.magfundraising.com for your help in giving my grandson an opportunity to obtain his treatments so that he can break through the walls he is encased in and allow him to be able to enjoy life like any other child his age. Without the funds that were raised through the fundraiser, Anthony would have been another special needs child to be isolated from society. I can happily report that at this time due to his treatments, he has advanced in his special class. He brought a book home to his mother and read it to her. That was a great milestone for him and we could not have achieved it without your help.

I strongly recommend this website to everyone and I will continue to use this fundraiser. Again, thank you for giving us the opportunity to raise the money for his treatment.

Betty Michelli
Baton Rouge, LA

Well, there you have it. Straight from one of the recent eFundraising magazine contest winners. If you are intrigued by this possibility for your organization, I highly recommend checking the site out.

When you are developing an investment portfolio, it is wise to diversify. It’s good to have a little of this and a little of that, so that if one industry falls down, your entire portfolio won’t be negatively affected.

I think that you should approach your school fundraisers in a similar fashion. You’ll have one or two major events that are time intensive, like a golf outing or auction, but you’ll also have the comparatively less intensive ones, like selling cookie dough or chocolate.

I want to draw your attention, however, to one fundraiser that is so easy, all you have to do is tell people about it and then deposit the checks.

eFundraising, which is a division of Readers Digest, has an amazing program for magazine sales. The concept is very simple.

The first thing you have to do is sign up for your own online magazine shop. The “wizard” on the eFundraising site helps you with this very simple process.

The next thing you do is email all of the people in your community with the link to the online magazine store. There are over 700 magazines available, with many of the most famous periodicals available today. Prices are up to 85% off the cover prices, so your families will get a great deal on something they would have bought on their own anyway.

And that’s it! Once the families purchase the magazines, your school will get a check for 40% of the subscription price.

In the past, I’ve written that non-profits should strive for at least 50% of the profits from a product sale, but I will make this exception, because the process is so simple and automatic. The requirement of time and effort on your part is so minimal that 40% is actually incredibly generous.

The other advantage to this magazine sale is that it can run all year long! You aren’t confined to a two week sale, for instance. You can start this magazine fundraiser at the beginning of the year, and it can run all the way until June. Whenever a family orders a subscription, you get a check. Not a bad set up, huh?

And, it gets better. eFundraising is giving away incredible incentive prizes for top sellers each month. For the months of July to December of 2008, they are giving away an Apple iPhone ($400 cash equivalent) to the person who sells the most subscriptions of all participating groups! Click here to learn how to enter the contests.

Having been the principal of an elementary school, I know how exhausting fundraising can be. The amount of labor that can go into raising money is astronomical. Therefore, I absolutely love any method of fundraising that requires so little from me, yet the money keeps rolling in. I strongly urge you to take a closer look at the magazine program through eFundraising. It is well worth your time and effort!

For anyone who’s into online fundraising, you know how important those emails are. Most importantly, your emails need to have a strong first paragraph because this is where you grab your reader’s attention, and where many will make the decision to support you or not. That’s why it’s key to make your first paragraph as strong and persuasive as possible. The best way to accomplish this? Personalization!

With the Online Magazine Fundraiser, half the work is already done for you. You don’t have to do the work of putting links into the main body of your emails.

The first paragraph of the emails, however, can be edited. This is your time to shine, and you should be taking advantage of the opportunity to personalize that first paragraph with your own words and sentiments, which will make it a much stronger approach to garnering support.

If you have already kicked off your group’s Online Magazine Fundraiser, you know that the first paragraph of the email invites goes like this:

My group, [Group Name], has just kicked off its fundraising campaign and this year, we’ve found a new way to raise money. It’s fast and easy for you to help support our cause!

That’s a great start, but it doesn’t convey the personal and heartfelt nature of your cause that only you can provide. Using the above paragraph as a base, here’ss an example of a much more personal opening paragraph:

Our group, The West End Youth Center, has been helping children realize their dreams, and grow into happy, successful adults for over 15 years. It is the care and support of people like you that makes this possible, and gives these children hope for their future. We have just kicked off our fundraising campaign, and this year, we’ve chosen a new way to raise money that makes it easy for you to support this great cause, and bring joy to the hearts of children.

Doesn’t that make a much stronger appeal for support? Imagine how persuasive and encouraging it would be for your supporters to hear directly from you!

Of course, you aren’t confined to this outline, and the suggested text generated by the Online Magazine Fundraiser is only meant as a guideline. It’s up to you to create a truly unique paragraph that speaks from the heart. The key is to make it personal, make it clear that this message is about fundraising, and keep the tone of your organization. If your group is all about fun and excitement, then go ahead and let that shine! You’re sure to get a much higher response (and much higher profits!), with personalized messages that take a heartfelt and sincere approach to asking for support.

If you haven’t started your Online Magazine Fundraiser yet, I highly recommend you give it a try. The program is completely free, so there’s no risk involved. It’s easy to set up and maintain, and excellent customer support is available if you run into a snag. Once you’re all set up and ready to start raising funds with your very own online magazine store, don’t forget to personalize those emails, and you’ll be on the path to fundraising success.

Some schools raised funds to provided for upgrading technology and others to support music and arts programs.

A variety of fundraisers were used and several schools did magazine sales quite successfully:

After the company took its 60% cut, the school ended up with $26,000 dollars. Meanwhile students at Parkview Middle School in Ankeny sold nearly $95,000 dollars worth of magazines. Its one of the top fundraising schools in the state. After the company took its cut, Parkview received about $43,000 dollars for its work.

When done well magazine fundraisers can be a great way to raise funds. Many people already subscribe to one or more magazines, so often times your school supporters can just renew their subscriptions.
