So, we are very happy to share some great news with you. Our friends over at FastTrack Fundraising have significantly increased the percentage of money your school gets to keep from their chocolate fundraisers. In the past, schools selling their brands of chocolate would receive 40% of the gross receipts, while 60% went back to FastTrack Fundraising. I do understand that high-quality chocolate is expensive, so I believe that justifies this kind of a percentage. However, they have now bumped the split across the board to 50-50.  In case of the $2 Chocolatiers Variety Pack , it’s now 60-40, in favor of the school! This is amazing! Founded in 1917, Hebert is one of the oldest brands in fundraising today. I recently received a small sampler box of Hebert Chocolate. While I love chocolate myself, my family is wildly enthusiastic about anything at all deriving from the sweetest bean on Earth: the coco bean.

So, I gathered the kids around me when I slit open the plain white box it arrived in. I told my two boys (9 and 6) and two girls (5 and 3) that something very special was inside, so they were huddled over the package in great anticipation.

Of course, I added to the drama by pretending to have great trouble opening this treasure chest. When I finally wrestled it open, they were practically salivating. Slowly, I reached my hand inside, fished around fervently for a few seconds, and with great force and thrust, yanked my hand back out, this time clutching a golden-wrapped bar of … of… just about the greatest thing known to man: chocolate.

Instantly, a chorus of “I WANT IT! I WANT IT!” rang out through my house. I threw my head back and let out a huge belly laugh, “There’s chocolate enough for EVERYONE!” The children hugged me, cried, and told me I was the best dad in the whole wide word. And it’s true. I am.

Ok, so maybe that’s not exactly how it all happened, but it is true that my four kids were very excited to get a box of chocolate bars in the mail.

Being the impartial, scientist-type, I knew it would be prudent to taste each sample of chocolate before reviewing it in this blog. I approached this task with great solemnity, almost as if at a vineyard in the south of France. Bib around my neck, spittoon at the ready, I nibbled a taste of the crispy rice. At first, I noticed that it had legs like a thoroughbred, strong and forward, with a tannic backbone. I picked up notes of leather that accentuated a rather presumptuous if not heady structure though voluptuous berry notes of cream and citrus lifted my spirits. An elegant and gentle finish just lingered on and on.

Oh, wait- wrong review. That was for my wine blog. Sorry. Crispy rice. Guess what, it was really good! It tasted just like a good old American bar of chocolate should.
