This was recently brought up at our PTA meeting. I would like to know how this works. When we contracted with a company to do our fundraiser he/she makes money by people buying his/her stuff. If we offer the opt-out then it is possibly a conflict of interest there. For example, we may catch the people that were not going to buy anything anyway (which is fine) but, then we may also get buy-out options for those that would have bought from the fundraiser catalog and therefore have taken money from the person we have contracted with. They need to make a certain amount of money in order to keep up their end of the deal with their incentives, parties, treats, that the kids win for selling. So to me it seems like you either go with a fundraiser or you ask for money instead of a fundraiser but I don't see how you can do both without a conflict. Can someone let me know how this might be possible? Thanks.

HI Debbie,

Thanks for writing! I feel your pain. I have four kids and we got hit with eight fundraisers in September alone! I encourage you to tell as many people as you can at your school and on the sports teams about the buy-out option. So many parents want to be generous and help out, but don't want to go through the process of selling to their friends and family members. I wish you the best!

Its about time!! I usually just send in a cash donation instead of participating in fund raisers and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a buy out option!!!

I have 3 kids in school and sports and they have been asked to participate in 8 different fund raisers in the last 3 months!! Give me a break! I don't have enough friends family and neighbors to participate plus I HATE the idea of my kids out peddling merchandise.

This is a great idea for schools sports!
