Holiday Gift Wrapping Fundraiser

Gift Wrapping FundraiserHoliday gift wrapping can bring in money for schools and non profit organizations. A gift wrapping fundraiser is done by volunteers who wrap holiday packages and gifts for patrons.

Many stores set space aside during the entire holiday season and then sign up school groups and other non profits to work just one day. Other groups like The American Business Women of America hold their own booth at a mall or other store for several weeks and up to the entire holiday season.

Though the wrapping is inexpensive, usually $1 to $6, some shoppers will leave extra knowing the money is going for a good cause.

“We had a man who had gotten a gift for his wife of 50 years,” Parker says. “He was getting her the pearls she had always wanted. He said, ‘Can you wrap this?’ He was so sweet. We told him we’d give it our best shot. When we got through wrapping, he left us $12.”

Artwork for Education Helps Schools Fundraise

Long Beach, Calif. (PRWEB) December 15, 2006 — For David Hirsch, principal of Wilbur Avenue Elementary School in Tarzana, Calif., it was almost too good to be true. “This was one of the easiest, cleanest fundraisers I have ever seen,” he said. “The emotional impact of the children’s art is amazing. It’s like the kids’ names go up in lights.”

Hirsch was speaking about Artwork for Education, a fresh approach to school fundraising that is getting the attention of educators across the country. The program showcases student art on the front of full-color custom greeting cards and credits the artist by first name, age and school. Schools are spending the proceeds on everything from computer lab equipment to maintaining art, music and physical education programs. continue reading

School Raises Funds for New Gym

Students, parents, alumni and staff at St. Edwards all banded together to raise funds for a gym.  The 10,000-square-foot Michigan catholic school in Lakeport Michigan was founded in 1959.  Though a highly regarded school, it had never had a gymnasium of its own and shared with a local public elementary school.

Despite the hefty cost of the project, school officials have the luxury of knowing they don’t need to find a way to pay for the addition.

The Archdiocese of Detroit required the school raise the more than $1.7 million in advance. Barring any complications or major cost overruns, the school won’t need to raise any additional money.

Fundraising for the project started during the 2000-01 school year, kick started by an $850,000 gift from the estate of parishioner Margaret Karwoski, who died in 2000. About $500,000 of the gift was directed toward the addition.

A capital campaign raised more than $1 million. The rest of the money came from fundraisers organized by students, parents and staff.

Students participated in a walk-a-thon to raise funds for their gym.   The students raised funds by getting pledges for the event.  When the gym is completed, it will be a source of pride knowing that the raising was a community wide effort.
